MISSION STATEMENT

The goal of the preschool program is consistent with the school’s mission. At Tuckerton Elementary School we strive, “in cooperation with our community, to provide for all students a safe and nurturing environment.  We will empower our students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to think critically, respect others and themselves, and achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards at all grade levels.” Our high quality preschool program allows us, as both a district and a community, to better prepare our preschool age children to thrive in elementary school. Exposing our children to preschool programming will better prepare them to transition into kindergarten.  The skills that they learn in preschool are invaluable in setting them up for success.




Creative Curriculum

Creative Curriculum a comprehensive, scientifically-based curriculum linked to an assessment system that addresses the what, why and how children learn best; supporting teachers and students alike. The philosophy of The Creative Curriculum® is that young children learn best by doing. The Creative Curriculum® is built on theories of development in young children, that all children learn through active exploration of their environment and therefore the environment plays a critical role in learning.

The classroom environment is specifically designed to create interest areas of learning. In each classroom, you will find a variety of interest areas. Some of these interest areas include: Dramatic play, Sand & Water, Block play, Toys & Games, Art, Discovery, etc.. Each classroom is set up for exploration and learning. Children have many opportunities to make choices, experiment, and interact with others. Materials are labeled and well organized, and purposefully placed low on shelves for children to access them independently.

Teaching Strategies Gold

Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum incorporates 38 learning objectives as the basis of everything that is done and what is planned for in the classroom.The learning objectives span from birth through third grade. They cover 10 content areas of development and learning. As noted above, the learning objectives inform every aspect of teaching, include predictors of school success, and are aligned with state early learning guidelines. Teachers collect documentation related to these objectives by creating a digital portfolio of observations, anecdotes, videos, work samples and pictures. This documentation to assess each child’s development and learning along a progression across the whole of the early childhood years. The objectives enable teachers to see children’s development and learning along a progression across the whole of the early childhood years.

Pyramid Model

The Pyramid Model is a positive behavioral intervention and support (PBIS) framework that uses systems-thinking and implementation science to promote evidence-based practices. The Pyramid Model was created to support Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children. This framework is used to help early childhood educators build skills for supporting nurturing and responsive caregiving, create learning environments, provide targeted social-emotional skills, and support children with

challenging behavior. The Pyramid Model is a tiered systems approach to support all children’s social and emotional development.
